Apta Font Family is a sans-serif typeface that explores the intersection of humanist and geometric designs. It takes inspiration from the mono-linear humanist approach of Johnston (Edward Johnston, 1913) and the geometric rigor of Futura (Paul Renner, 1927). While many characteristics that define each of these classifications are unique, Renner and Johnston’s seminal typefaces both inherently have proportional and tonal similarities. It’s these similarities and the idiosyncrasies within each design that provided the inspiration for Apta.
Apta is structured with Roman proportions with a mono-linear build and is distinguished by consistent vertically cut terminals — a humanist trait derived from straight joins of shoulder to stem. The rigorous application of these terminals gives the design an engineered quality, while the recurring open apertures give the design an open and even flow.
