Impacto Font is a headline typeface inspired by the traditional wooden fonts of the 20th century – monumental, often imperfect, but full of character. The starting point was a fascination with the blocky geometry of old print – the large, heavy letters used in affishes, posters and newspaper headlines. In Impacto, however, this classical form has been deliberately disrupted: some of the proportions are “wrong”, the details too harsh, the rhythm uneven. These non-ideal decisions are a conscious choice – a reminder of the physical work of type designers ine the past, the randomness of the impact, the wear and tear of the dies. The typeface balances between the order of construction and the chaos of gesture, between digital precision and analogue error. It’s not top-right geometry – it’s letters with history, with grain, with roughness. Ideal for headlines where strength, texture and clarity are needed. The overall design consists of 5 width variations and a variable font variant. Małgorzata Bartosik and Borys Kosmynka also participated in the process led by Mateusz Machalski.
